The Video Platform Grants Users Control to Reduce AI-Generated Videos in Personal Streams

TikTok is introducing a fresh option that enables them to reduce the quantity of AI-created content appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the company revealed that it now features more than 1 billion AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The update is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a widespread launch. This advancement comes amid a rise in AI-generated material, driven by recent AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

Studies have shown that almost a tenth of the fastest-growing channels on a competing service only show clips produced artificially. A considerable share of this output is classified as “AI slop”, a label for inferior, bulk-generated content that is often absurd or bizarre.

Our research shows that numerous viewers like content produced via AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to educational videos, and we aim to give people the power to increase or decrease of that, according to their own preferences,” said a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

TikTok announced that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its app identified as artificially created. In total, over 100 m videos are added to the platform daily, making AI content a relatively small part of its total content library.

Customizing Your Feed

Users will be capable of reduce or increase the level of AI-generated videos they watch by accessing the “manage topic” feature in the application and selecting the AI content topic. Additional categories that currently be modified under the filter encompass news, style, cosmetics, and choreography.

AI Disclosure Rules

TikTok’s rules require creators to tag lifelike artificially created content, and it forbids dangerous AI impersonations of well-known individuals or emergencies. Any realistic artificial content that is unmarked can be deleted under its user guidelines.

In addition, the service will now add an artificially created tag to content produced via its own AI tools, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for spotting content made by AI. This action is designed to stop users from trying to bypass the labeling process.

Educational Initiatives

TikTok is furthermore introducing a $2m AI literacy fund for specialists and groups to produce learning resources about using AI responsibly. This initiative will benefit non-profit groups specializing in teaching computer science.

Platform Protection

TikTok has defended its safety measures, amid controversy over proposals to lay off a large number of review team members in the United Kingdom. TikTok is expected to eliminate hundreds of positions in its user protection division in the UK capital, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that human moderation would continue to be important, but AI can safeguard staff by removing the most harmful content prior to it is viewed by staff. The platform reported a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content seen by safety staff over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate staff and AI to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have humans as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s extremely critical to minimize viewing of harmful content as swiftly, which is why a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
